Surgical Hole After Skin Cancer Removal:
After removing this lady’s skin cancer, a large deep wound resulted. Remember, as this was treated with Mohs surgery, this was the smallest hole necessary to ensure all the cancer roots had been removed.
Plastic Surgical Reconstruction by Dr Hussain:
I didn’t feel that a skin graft would provide the best outcome for this large wound. In order to try to place the scar lines within the natural expression lines of the face, I performed repair known as a rotating island pedicle flap. The flap moves skin from beneath the wound and brings it round in a curved fashion to replace the missing skin.
Long Term Result:
Even though this photo was taken only a few weeks after the surgery, the outcome is pleasing. There is a good colour and texture match for the skin that had been removed and also the lower eyelid position is stable.
